WASchoolLens
See every school clearly. Compare what matters.

About this project

When I started looking into which neighborhood schools my kid would attend, I turned to the usual school rating websites for help. What I found was disappointing for a few reasons: many of them were still showing outdated report card data, several leaned heavily on a narrow set of categories while ignoring others, and almost none of them made it easy to see how a school was actually doing compared to other schools in the same district.

That gap is what WASchoolLens is meant to fill. It pulls directly from the latest OSPI Washington State Report Card data and brings test scores, student growth, attendance, discipline, demographics, and graduation outcomes into one place, side by side, across every school in a district. The K-12 Pathways view goes a step further and follows a child's actual journey from elementary through middle and high school using each district's published feeder patterns.

My hope is that this is genuinely useful to parents comparing schools, teachers and administrators looking at how their school compares within the district, and anyone in the community who wants a clearer picture of how local schools are doing.

Feedback & contact

WASchoolLens is a work in progress, and more districts are being added over time. If you notice an error in the data, have a suggestion for a new metric, want a new district added, or just want to share feedback, I would love to hear from you.
